    Hi fellow reefers,

I want to build a custom tank but I'm a bit confused about the dimensions of the width and height.Im idea is to build one that is 1500mm length x 800mm width x 600 mm height this should give me about 700l.
The part here I'm confused is should the height be more than the width or vise versa?
I'm using 10mm glass.Would the structure be solid with these dimensions?

    Thank you
    Fenton

Hi, I don't think it matters but personally I would let the width be more than the height, and 10mm should do. Great size by the way and welcome to masa

Thanks guys for the warm welcome

No,not my first set up,had an RSM 250 which I sold about 2 weeks ago and now have a 600mm x600mm x 600mm cube ,which I regret getting as I lost most of my tangs due to space, and getting stressed out,the live stock I want to keep,my cube will not accommodate.going to keep my cube as a QT.
    Here's a pic of my cube,think it's sideways
    Thoughts??
    Thanks

    Hi

    I have a 1.6 x 0.8 (width) x 0.7 (deep)
    10 mm glass
    coast to coast v2 overflow

Its real nice to have the tank that wide and with the rock work in the middle of the tank you create a lot of swimming space for the fish.

Just note with 800 mm tank width moving it through standard door openings is a bit of a pain.

    Good luck

Hi @Fenton, I'm also going to be busy very soon with a similar size build. Mine is going to be 1300x1000x550mm. Also using 10ml glass. It should be fine. I think the only time u would need thicker glass is when your height increases. Will try and find the link for the online calculator. My tank will be around 720l with a height of 550. My skimmer is rated for 2000L.

Calculators are found on the MASA home page.

Click on the calculator icon. The one after the ? icon. :)

10mm should be fine, I have a 1800 x 700 x 700. Give some thought to the width. I battle to get to the back of my tank with it being 700 wide so 800 could be a push. If you can increase the length a little?

True this.. But also depends on the space on either side of the tank. If you have ample room you can access the back by standing on the side of the tank.

This is a luxury I don't have. I can access my tank from the front and one side. Even then the canopy gets in the way. I am not quite skilled at standing on bar stools and leaning half into my tank. It also doesn't help that my stand is a meter tall!

Lol. My stand is also going to be a meter tall. But at a height of 550 with the tank it should allow me fair access. Also I am.not building a hood on this one. Wanna suspend the lights from the ceiling. That should help a little.

Having a tall stand makes the tank experience a whole lot better. Least you don't have to bend down the whole time to look into your tank.

Tell me about it. I'm having that issue with my current tank. The only time I have a level view is when.I'm on the couch. Also why I'm going with a higher stand. I also have a big @ss skimmer so need the height

From what I checked so far rimless seems risky with 10ml at that size. I would also love my tank to be rimless
