Hi Everyone.

I would like to know between Bubble Magus and Red Devil skimmers, how do they compare with regards to reliability, efficiency and the all important issue of silence?

Thanks

Running a BM Curve-D8 (is a DC pump version) - quiet as a mouse...Only thing i don't like about it is it doesn't restart if power is lost & then resumes, you have to manually restart it...some seem to like that feature - i don't (my return pump is on online power backup)

Was under 6 back a few months ago.....no setting to change, Marco(waterboy)enquired for me & got told "that's just the way they are" The AC ones just start back up....Other BM DC pumps do also i believe but the control box between the 2 ain't interchangable.
Shutting down a few hours for coral feeding ain't possible unless you manually remember to turn it back on - it can't be programmed to go off/on via a controller like i could with an AC.

Something does not sound right here. I got an ATI skimmer with DC pump. It does not switch back on directly either, takes its time. It is a feature for sumps where the water level rises and normally would result in a flooded skimmer cup. Now the sump level can first reset to the running level before the skimmer restart.

How do you restart it? power switch off and on and then it runs?

Something is not right pumps should turn on automatically. Do the pumps not have feed mode?

Just double checked it - programmed an off/on(same as power cut).
When power is returned the BM controller lights up in Standby mode & you have to hit the dial or it won't start up.
Given it 40mins now,feed mode is 7mins.
Edit: Gave it 1 hour same deal

I do not know BM skimmers that well, but I'm sure it should restart at some point. Sure your controller is not faulty. Any other BM guys out there?

I can confirm that it does not restart automatically. Had a power failure yesterday morning and when I got home at 6:30 the skimmer was still off.

I am really close to buying the curve 7 skimmer. Please excuse my ignorance but is it a big issue that they don't kick in automatically after a power failure? Obviously if your away for a significant period f time it's a problem but will a couple of hours make much difference. I only ask because theyre pretty expensive and if there's s better alternative I need to consider it.

ok for a couple of hours, until you get home from work. A problem when you are away on holiday.

Curve 7 won't have this problem as it has an ac pump.

I have the red devil Monsker skimmer. Rated for 2500L tank and have it one my 1.2x600x600.

My pumped packed up but found out it is the exact same pump as the jecod dct6000 so just replaced the impeller with the original pumps impeller.

With regards to starting up after power outage, it starts up as usual without me having to do anything.

Also, it skims like a beast for being so overrated for my system.

What I love most now about this skimmer is that the jecod pumps are readily available all over the country so no stressing about replacing a pump.
