My bubble coral is discharging some brown hairlike strands from its centre. I've done a quick google images search but can't find something similar there. Anybody got any idea what is could be?

It seems it could be expelling zooxanthellae, which is normal sometimes but could also be a sign of stress. It look helathy - I'll have to keep an eye on it ...

Seems they a) expell waste and b) expell zooxanthellae from time to time (especially when light intensities change). That explains it as I did increase the intensity 2 days ago. It's still got lots of colour and opens up like usual (and much bigger than when I first got it), so I'm not too worried about it.
