Saw a link somewhere that ID's this as bryopsis, the small colony of zooz has closed up now. Should I toss the piece before it spreads or is there a way to get rid of it?

Those are colonial hydroids, get rid now before they spread, they are a real pain if they get a hold in your tank.

But Zoas are strong, I have had rock out of the tank for a week with Zoa colonies and they survived

I had this same stuff grew like wild flower in my last tank. When I started the new tank I was forced to move some over on a Ricordea rock and within a day my Bi-color chowed em up...none has returned.
