Started this thread in October Correct dosage of epsom salt to combat bryopsis? - Marine Aquariums of South Africa but starting a new one as high magnesium levels never worked. I briefly had success with kalkwasser mix but with bryopsis growing from within the LR it just started growing back.

Brief background.. weekly 20% water changes with tetra salt and 0 TDS RO. Change carbon weekly (overkill), blow detritus off LR weekly, run Rowaphos. As of yesterday, nitrates and phosphates undetectable. A week ago nitrates were 2, phosphates have been undetectable for months now.

When I do waterchanges I try pull and siphon (so filaments dont end up somewhere else in the tank) as much bryopsis as possible.

Started MB7/vodka dosing in December, currently up to 3.5ml vodka per day. I've just started noticing some fading in SPS which indicates lack of nutrients. But this algae spawn of satan continues to thrive.

Now, going back to undetectable N and P, I know the algae can hide the true reading, but wouldn't the vodka have begun starving the bryopsis by now?

Now, I should add, even with MB7/vodka dosing, I still have to wipe the glass nearly every day. Could there be something leeching from some of the LR? Leeching from something else?

@Tony, you mentioned Prodibio sorted out your bryopsis problem. I'm keen to try but what does prodibio do that MB7/vodka cant?

I have thought about a scrubber but its really tricky for me to add one.

    Thats it. thanks:)

    Hi Gaboon

Th reason you constantly have to clean your glass is most probably due to overdosing the vodka.

A scrubber would most probably put the final nail in the bryo coffin.

Space constraints. I'll have to drill through wall and build it outside, not really an option.

I will try this as a last option but want to see what other ideas there are.

I forgot to add, even with vodka dosing, hair algae is also growing in a few places.

Have had to clean the glass daily since I started this tank. Made no difference since carbon dosing.

Didn't notice much with stability. Won Microbe-Lift Special Blend from Hennie (THANKS HENNIE) so should give that a try.

The different products should contain different bacterial strains. Perhaps one of the otrher will work better in your system than MB7. Worth a try if you already have the Special blend.

If you start drinking that you may go blind then not see the bryopsis. Problem solved.

I am using Probibio and it seems to be a bit better - not the results I expected but I can see an improvement.

No, def no space for that. I reckon it needs to be massive to be effective and dont have the space.

I've been thinking about it for the last hour. In my previous setup I had a patch of bryopsis about 10cm in diameter. (before I knew what it was). I never worried about it and during one waterchange I easily pulled it off. After that I never saw it again. Now the only difference between the 2 tanks was a large amount of chaeto in the sump.

I should look at maybe stopping the carbon, fit a light to the sump and grow some macro. Any thoughts?
