    Good Day

    My Clarkii has some peculiar brown stuff near his gill plate/face area on his left fin side.

    It has been swimming in an unusual manner over the past two days, swimming in the current quiet a lot.(like in front of the flow pump)

    It also hasn't been behaving like the boss of the tank.

    Any clues?

    It's probably infected with some kind of parasitic protozoa.:(

    Could be Amyloodinium ocellatum?
    the fish is swimming in the current for better flow over gills, as well as trying to shake some excess mucus. these things can only be confirmed 100% under a microscope, but there must be someone here with experience wrt marine velvet? Williet ?

    @Achilles
    Sean, can you have a look at this picture?
    I am tempting to say it looks like brook, but the fish should be dead by now and the rest as well.

    Is it only on one area of the body or is it in patches over the whole body, it may be brook, fungal or bacterial that the fish is trying to fight off and that is why it has succumbed yet, It is swimming in the current to get more oxygen as it's gills are likely affected by the disease, increase aeration by airstone or more flow.

    Check and improve water conditions first off and are any other fish showing distress?

    Did you have a look at that Sick Fish Web Page...? I went thru some and only scanned the Symptons section of the diseases..3 of them had "browing by gills" as one of the symptoms.... it was Carbon Dioxide Poisoning, Alkalosis and Acidosis..there could be more as I didn't go thru them all...

    Another Site I found..
