I've lost 2 colonies to this 'rot' this year and not its started to nail one of my favourite colonies so need advice.
From what ive seen, it will start with one polyp closing, going brown and slimy, and then it just spreads and can take out a colony in 2 weeks..
    Firstly, what is it?
    cause?
and solution other than trying to chop off the bad section to save the rest??

Eish, never seen that, but zoas can be very temperamental. What i would suggest is an idione dip on the affected colony. It could be from a variety of issues. Dip and see if it halts the rot?

You can try off the shelf products and mix according to the ratio they say... Any of the coral dip products...

This is a section from the Link..
They say "other" Coral..I can only assume logically that Zoas fall under that...then yes...probably could infect Zoas....
