First off you need to let the tank run just like that for another 5 weeks to allow it to go through it's ammonia, nitrite and nitrate cycle.

the substrate is crushed coral. I have read conflicting reports about it.

5 weeks I can do. Any water changes in that time or do I just add water when necessary ?
