    Hi all.
    I have a tl550.
The normal blue led moonlights died. Can't seem to find the fault.
Replaced them with a blue led strip light.
Unfortunately the water that drips out the back of the tank during condensation ran down this wire and killed the connection.
So once again I have no moonlights.

I am sick of trying to fix this problem.
Do you recommend taking the top off and replacing it with a different light system?
I don't personally like an open top tank.
Boyu have the new canopy with full led system built into the canopy but I don't know the cost involved in buying a new canopy.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thx

You don't need to run the moonlight. If that is the only concern you have I would keep the lid on.

Great LED units available for kick-ass corals, but you need to pay closer attention to your Boyu when the lid is open. Need to top-up much more often, heater setting maybe a little higher (depending on how cool the room gets, etc).

A couple of people on the forum have built LED lights into their hoods and there are now Boyu's available with LED hoods. So if you want to go LED you can look into some of the mod jobs done by forum members or save up and either buy a new Boyu with LED hood, or speak to your LFS or a sponsor to see if they can get just the LED hood for you.

Have a look at my thread. I was also sceptical about going open top. but eventually did and never regretted it.

I felt my boyu's were just not cutting it. I removed the canopy and got a hanging led unit. Much happier reefer now! :)

Remember it is a little more work with the open canopy, but totally worth it

Same here. Took the hood out and got an led unit over it. Lots if heat issues with the hood. Evaporation can be handled with an auto top up so not an issue.
