    Hi,

I am a newbie and looking to start a reasonably simple Marine setup.

I notice that there seem to be hundreds of new & second hand Boyu TL 550 tanks on sale.

Is there some sort of defect with them that everyone is trying to offload them?

Would this be a good/reliable setup to start my Marine education with.

Your experience and critique will be much appreciated.

    Thanks & regards
    G

Great little tanks and very easy to opporate. I have one and must say I'm very impressed but will advise to upgrade flow and lighting( both depending on what you want to keep, fine for softies). I'm happy with the skimmer but some think it's not sufficient.

Very nice little tanks, specially for the price.
A lot of people tend to buy the small tanks and then want to upgrade to something bigger.
I have had mine for about 20 months and am still happy with it, take a look at the tank in my signature.

Nice starter tank. Can get a bit hot in the summer, but can easily be modded with a fan. If you decide to get one and you want to upgrade the light, I have an Odyssey quad 60cm T5 light unit that would be perfect for it.

I agree with some of the guys. Nice plug and play tank for your easy corals and maybe even some more advanced corals. depending on your experience. Mine is 3 years old and I am still loving it. I have upgraded a lot of the equipment, lights etc on the tank though. The smaller the tank the more difficult it is keeping the parameters stable. If you can afford a bigger tank(maybe even go for a cube with a sump) go as big as you can. Dont get me wrong, I love my tank but if I can start over, i wouldve started bigger. There are some nice 2nd hand tanks up for sale from time to time. Good luck with your choice.

@Jordan, I don't think @NADEEM will have the tank any more, that post was submitted in March 2013...

I have a new model TL550 (not for sale  ), and there's no lights for the refugium.
