    Hi

I have kept tropical tanks all my life and eventually my son has started a marine tank. All help will be appreciated. He is looking for an anenome so that he can get a clown. Any help will be appreciated. He is also looking for some suggestions on easy soft corals and where the best place is to get them.;)

    Hi

How old it the TL550? Is it the newer genration with LED or the older with PL tubes?

    Also, has the tank cycled?

We have had the tank running for 4 weeks now. We picked up some rock on a recent Mozambique trip that we put in that has a small anemone that seems to be doing well. The tank was purchased second hand it has four fluorescent light and two small blue led lights

Yeah the little rock anemones do wekk in any system, but will eventually die.

Nennies (one for you Nemo), should really not be kept in such a "young" sytem, but if you have to put one in, I would suggest a Bubble tip - they are the hardier species...

Also, upgrade the light to LED, lots of threads on here on how to build a DIY unit.

great advice so far. u know people under estimate these tanks. alot can be done with them.
have a look at a few threads on here.
Also nemo doesnt need an anemone to be happy.

Oh and welcome to the boyu clan:thumbup:

    Welcome terri.
The tl550's are great tanks with great possibilities!
Unfortunately, anemones are one of the more difficult inverts to keep in ANY marine aquarium & should only be attempted by more experienced aquarists. They require lots of light & very good, stable water quality.
Unfortunately, clownfish cant host in just any anemone as well. Certain types of clowns will only host in certain anemones, & most of the anemones are classified to be kept by experts only.
The hardiest anemone that will host a clownfish is the bubbletip anemone, & even they are very sensitive to unstable/bad water quality.
My suggestion to you would be to get 2 common clowns (occelaris clowns) & add some pulsating xenia coral to the tank. The clowns often host in xenia coral or other corals as it is in their nature to host someting. This will give you & your son some time to learn more about marine keeping, & when the tank is stable & you have a bit more experience about the hobby, you can add a bubbletip anemone.

You also have to remember that if an anemone dies in such a small tank, it is very likely to poison the whole tank & you could have a tank crash where iverything could die. (Im talking out of experience about this...)
A good place to start would be to learn about water perameters & how to keep them stable.

Cool. You are always welcome to ask questions as much as you like.
Why dont you upload a pic of your tank so we can give some better input to help you keep a succesful anemone tank one day!
