blue skimmate would indicate a medicine was used in the tank or a additive with a blue dye.. skimmers are extreemly effiecient i pulling dyed substances out of the water...

would also love to see the pic..

Is the substrate, tank or any other hardware, even live rock second hand from another reefer?

no matter where it was collected, municipal water still goes through treatment so nasty stuff still gets added.

Have you dosed anyhting at all?

just a question: what are the condition of the pipes in your tank? could they not be a problem? far out but worth checking...
