    Hi

Does any one have a blue dot Jawfish?

I am looking to get one.

    What's their temperament like?

Will they get along with other bottom dwelling fish?

How often do you see them in your tank?

    Are they a rare find?

Is R 2000 a fair price for them?

    Cheers

They jump because they are being chased by other fish.

Not necessarily. I've got a randalli that jumps all the time for no apparent reason. Twice as big as every other fish in the tank and nothing bothers it. They're just a reallllly highly strung genus prone to panic attacks. If I didn't have a cover he'd have gone carpet surfing long ago.

Nope...they just jump! They are notorious jumpers. I tried my hand at two in my old 6ft tank...knowing that they were susceptible to jumping out of tanks without lids I still took the risk as its my dream fish...and I lost both of them to carpet surfing...

Both of mine used to swim around the tank at night...up the sides of the glass and in my case into the overflow and then onto the floor behind the tank...

Other than being jumpers they are great fish, awesome personalities and can be watched for hours! Mine never had issues with any of the other fish in my tank...although I think they will be territorial with other bottom dwellers that come near their cave.

R2000 does seem steep...that being said I have seen them go for R2500, but generally R1200 like Les said seems to be the average.

    Thanks for info guys.

My tank has a lid so hopefully jumping wont be an issue.

Will keep on looking for a better priced one then.

Any of the sponsors you know of that have in jhb area?

Well perhaps my statement "chased by other fish" is not entirely correct.

These gobies are territorial and aggressive during the day. They build a home to retreat to at night in the form of a burrow. This burrow they cover with substrate and debris for protection at night. IME if there are predators such as fish, crabs, bristle worms etc in their burrow vicinity at night they take flight and jump. There is NO suggestion that they feed at night, which suggests that they are chased from their covered burrow by a predator and are looking for refuge.

    Thanks for great info.

Seem I still have some work to do before I add this guy to my tank.

Will make a few changes and then add one to my system.

Thanks again for all the info.

    Cheers.

    Nice article, thanks!

With my new tank setup it is definitely one fish I am planning on basing my whole tank around this time and those little pointers in there are useful to think about.
