I have a blue cheek goby. But having a bit of issues.

He dives down, picks up sand, goes up, sifts it, dropping it all over my Live rock, mostly the lower half of the tank. Now it's not too much of a problem to me, but I'd like to know, if he drops sand like this on corals (don't have yet but going to get some soon) will it be detrimental to them?

The joys of sifters. Unfortunately that is exactly what they do and how they get food in nature. If your tank is small and relatively new the fish will probably starve to death. The sand will be all over the show, on your rocks ,corals etc.

There's enough food for the goby, it's looking good.

My question is, with the fact that he's spraying the sand all over, will it damage coral or not?

Unfotunatly Tony is right. Your tank (presume the goby is still in your tl550?), is too small and the goby will eat everything in the sand in no time. I dont doubt it looks good now, but it will slowly starve unless it takes prepared foods.

Most corals can tolerate some sand but too much san will end up damaging the corals.

Ok thanks for the answer. So anyone want a Blue cheek goby?

Wife bought it and brought it home without consulting me, so it was kind of a oops...

maybe the shop will take it back and swap for something else.

Must be great having a wife that buys you things for your tank!

It's great, but she's a bit too excited... Just needs me to slow her down, otherwise she's a compulsive buyer...

Will contact them and find out whether they'll take it back. Going to be a challenge catching him though... He has a little cave he hides in...

think its a good move swopping for something else. That fish wouldve been more of bad thing than a good thing,at least you dont have to worry about the fish and the sand.

must be awesome that the wife buys you stuff for tank. Mines prety forgiving with me spending money on my hobby so Im kinda lucky as well.
