Submariner had a purple one for sale a while back. S. haddoni come in bright red, purple, green and blue. You also get a sort of army green, mottled one.

I think Submariner's was going for R1200, IIRC.

When I see them in the wild, they're typically in lagoonal or seagrass habitats. The last ones I saw in Moz had Perclimenes sp. shrimp hosting.

Putting them in a regular reef tank is a bit of a risk. They can sting and eat quite big fish.

ive seen a pair of lumo green ones in durban... do you think they were dyed???

they were either Stichodactyla gigantea or Stichodactyla haddoni i dunno the difference really.

how do you tell if livestock has been dyed?

    Hey Les,

Just a heads up. From experience of having two blue carpets. Try get a haddoni over the gigantea. While in my opinion the gig is the most beautiful creature they do not fare well in our systems, and suffer poorly from shipping.

The good news is that the haddoni ships more regularly to SA, and should be available if you are patient.

Its also quite easy to tell the differnce betweent the two by just looking at them, but if you need any pointers on identification, just give me a shout. ;)

Good luck finding one of these stunning creatures.

As for colouring - surprisingly even though they astound us with their vivid colours, most of them are the real deal.

stoked, shot Nate.. saw a red one and it looks surreal in the pic. unfortunatley going to have to be purchasing this over the net would you mind posting a piture to tell the difference between the 2

stumbled onto them today and was amazed at their bright colouration and to be able to get them in SA. almost too good to be true

Hows to tell me the pointer you got for ID... i need an education... the ones i saw were going for R380 i think... the guy in the shop told me they host African clowns best... which wouldn't be my first choice of clown if i did ever get one.

What other creatures do they host well?
