Just got home and found my Blenny in the front of the tank.....usually he moves to the back very quickly if he spots me.on closer inspection I found that when he tries to swim he can only make circles anti clockwise. His right side looks bruised and a bit swollen................Could he have hurt himself or what could it be?

Perhaps he got stung by something like a mini carpet anemone?

Sorry I don't know those Blennies at all...are they sand-shifters...?...could some granuals have been to big and he has swallowed it...? and bruised/damaged him from the inside...? Sorry like I said...I don't know that type of Blennie.....obviously the question is irrevelant if it isn't a sand-shifting fish...

Maybe a big crab or mantis shrimp is lurking in your tank?

    So sorry to hear Kharnyge,
I see it was a little Red Flymo Blenny (Blenniella Chrysospilos).

I have read up about his feeding and aquarium needs. Maybe this could give you some indication of what went wrong. I dont know how big your tank is or how long its been running, but heres some info...

"It needs to be kept in a well established aquarium with plenty of microalgae growth and detritus, as, like some other herbivorous blennies, it can have problems adapting to aquarium foods. It needs plenty of live rock to provide enough grazing opportunities and shelter. Its reasonably hardy provided it gets enough food. Min size tanks : 120 X 45 X 38cm." From: WHAT FISH? A Buyer's Guide to Reef Fish... By Phil Hunt.

Maybe this info could give you some idea of what happened to the poor fella..

is Red flymo blenny just another name for orange spotted blenny?........cos thats what I was told it was........He was feeding fine and had ample space and hiding places.......this morning he still was fine.

Been following the thread on your tank a little and it seems your tank is only around 4 weeks old, could have been a little early to add this kind of livestock. One thing I have learned with this hobby is things unfortunately go wrong quickly.

It would be best to figure out what went wrong so you can avoid making the same mistake in the future.

    Sorry for your loss :(

Please don't take me wrong, I'm not blaming you at all but am rather just trying to assist in getting to the bottom of the cause so you and other people don't make the same mistake in the future. A 4 week old tank, especially with a nano, is a delicate balancing act with parameters, people with much larger tanks such as myself at this stage of maturation can struggle to keep things stable.

well after further investigation I found that the hollow that the blenny liked to sleep in wasnt hollow anymore.....so heres my assumption.....the fighting conch pushed up the substrate as the blenny was sleeping or something trapping him against the LR and when he tried to get out he might have hurt himself on the LR squeezing out......Only thing that explains the wounds at this stage
