I saw this Blasto yesterday and coudn't walk past it...

It is bright red/organe with a green center...

I've been reading now and most references agree they need moderate lighting with low flow and a possition close to the bottom.

I have it about 10 cm below 3 54 WATT T5's. 2 white and 1 blue.
Is this moderate or strong? SHould I rather move it down to the substrate?

Any other info on this coral will be greatly appreciated.

you can place it lower.the substrate will be better, how deep is your tank?

No pic yet...I'll snap one tonight ;)

The water level is only about 40 cm if I have to estimate roughly...

Great Thanks

Accordsing to most of the references they supposed to be very rare... Is this really the case?

Wow I have not seen 1 of these for a while. Was it expensive?
Yes u got it right on the lighting and waterflow conditions.Placement should be near the bottom depending on your light.
As far I remember they can also tolerate dim light.

Thanks Puppy. I saw a few references that said the same thing about dim light...

It was R350 ofr a smal colony, about 4 heads. Only about 9 cm long and 3 cm wide...
It was an impluse buy, but it just grabbed me. Very sharp red and green colouring...

I'll have a pic tomorrow. I had on that looks identical on the net. I'll try and get the pic so long..

I have the same coral and it isnt very fussy it seems to like moderate light +- 30 cm from my halide.

Wow so a few ppl have this coral and i thought they quite rare in the trade.
Well lets just say i have not seen them for a year or 2 .

Thanks Jac

I'll post a pic of mine tomorrow morning. Mine is a tad more to the pink side, but the green is an exact match...

Did I over pay for it?

Yes it is a Blastomussa coral ,but u have the merletti and not the wellsi.

Whats the diff Puppy?

On most of the sites it looks like the merletti has more smaller polyps while the wellsi has bigger and fewer polyps...
