black stuff

    Hi BlackRat - it is hydrogen sulfide. It is the result of an-aerobic bacteria doing their work. This is the resultant chemical compound that get's formed when certain carbon based "foods" get's broken down to their lowest levels.

    In big quantities, hydrogen sulfide can be very toxic to lifestock. So - it is best to leave the areas in your sandbed undisturbed where you see this "black stuff" form....

    its in the dsb around the edges, but now its on some of my rock , looks like rubber thats been stretched over the rock ... in other places its like a powder on the rock[​IMG]

    Sorry BlackRat - I truly "jumped the gun" here.

    No - the stuff in the picture that you are showing, is cyano-bacteria. Just a very dark strain of this.....

    Cyano lives of high nutrients - and there is most likely some nutrients leaching out of the rock that the cyano is on.....
