From what I understand many things can cause it but all boils down to stress..temp not right...they stress...water not right...they stress..my opinion in a VERY SIMPLISTIC" nutshell...unless they are trying to "host"..but that tends to look more like black smuges..My Clowns have had Blackspots now for about 2months...my spots haven't gone away...must admitt I don't have a QT and I've got a Shrimp...they haven't gotten more, just the same amount of spots...

Your request is useless without a picture. It could be black oodinium. Or it could be something else. Only a picture will help.

Where are the clowns hosting in? That could be the cause as well.

If they're hosting in a nennie or a type of euphyllia then they're probably getting stung, if this is the case from what I've read it's nothing to be concerned about, my guys get them as well

It could be. Are there only a few bigger black spots visible or is the fish covered with black spots, just like white spots?

are the spots everywhere on their bodies or restricted to the orange parts? if so, it is most likely a pigmentation issue, from hosting in the hammer. kinda like sunburn - nothing to worry about.

has their behaviour changed at all? are they still eating? if they seem happy and are eating then dont stress

Mine also gets these spots only on the orange parts, and he doesn't host or go near anything other than the top corner of the tank. They dont look like oodinum.

Sorry...I zoomed in from a dizzy height with my iphone so it's not one of my best shots..especially if the subject refuses to swim in one spot..

I know regals also get the black spot, I had it a few times before, and even tried bathing the clowns daily in formalin for it, and it did not work, I think it is supposed to be the hardest to treat, but hardly affects the fish at all. I wouldn't worry about it, it is usally all gone in 2 weeks to a month.
