    Howzit guys.
I really like the black silicone look but, my tank is already done in clear silicone. Now I was wondering, how will it look if I paint the edges black? Say up to a centimeter or 2 away from the end of the glass.Get the picture?
Any suggestions, and what will be the best paint to use?
    Thanks in advance :)

Dont know what it would look like but its easy to gett off the glass if you dont like it.

Plascon Velvaglo would be tops a close second would be dulux pearlglo.

Test it if you dont like it scrape it off with a glass scraper.
The only tough part would be that at the join there is usually a bit of exposed silicone,
Even tho you could paint over it the paint will always crackle there and flake off.

I reckon if you did it out of black masking tape or a black window tint you would have a winner. Just need to be precise with your taping up.

I do have some black Velvaglo lying around. But then again, if I run my magnet cleaner on it, it will come off.
Tridan, you dont think it will look 'cheap' with black masking tape?

That is a brilliant idea. Going to be a mission to cut it 100% straight though, unless I get it cut at Maizey's.

Maizeys will cut it for you. They usually have off cuts so ask before you buy a full sheet

I think that will be your best bet, the paint will more than likely have streaks or lines in it, you won't get that 'smooth/shiny' look like the silicone on the other side of the glass.

Thanks guys. After I empty the tank out, I'll work on the strips.
Im also planning on going BB and was thinking about using black ABS sheeting on the base between the braces. What you guys think?

3m should do the trick with insulation is not to strech it otherwise it pulls back over time..

Cool, will start off with insulation and see how it looks. If it looks bad, I will go the ABS sheeting route :)

I used plain black electrical tape on my tank when I was about 6 :p Worked pretty well, had to replace occasionally.

No man the silicone was on the inside... I just put tape over all the edges to hide silicone and make it look nice.
