black dust on rocks,sand and on bottom of the sump

    hi guys

    i came home from boarding school for the weekend and found some of my rocks covered in black dust...then saw the sand and then in the sump.....i do run activated carbon on the tank....could it be from that?

    how long did it take to clear up and what do you do about it to make it go away?

    Well how do you run your carbon ?bag, reactor and how's the flow ?h

    Didn't you rinse the carbon beforehand? .....its just dust, will disapear, cnt cause harm in tank

    Ok that is your problem you should have a lower flow rate coz as the carbon is tumbling it is grinding on each other and making a fine dust

    Or you can just compact it in the reactor so it doesn't tumble:p

    What carbon are you using? Some cheaper brands tend to break up as well.

    Not the bet carbon I've used but will swop it out in a week or so with some matrix or some rowa carbon
