It's actually black silicon, was there on one of the tank builds, it's sorta like a plastic bordering tool thing they use... hope I'm not giving away trade secrets...

I'd say the easiest way to replicate that look is to spread it like Belinda said, but just use masking tape to set a nice straight line... As soon as its spread remove the tape... Evoila

Looking at abgg118 post on Gideon's tank seems that black linning is done prior to assembly. I would agree with Belinda and Chris method.

    It is just black silicone.
If you want to do the same thing on an existing running tank, then cut thin strip of black ABS sheet, and use that as a frame. I got a strip across the top so you do not see the water surface while standing in front of the tank.

 .... Pending on glass thickness,it will determine the border with black den braven silicone... That looks rimless so should be between 12-15ml glass, so silicone border will look thicker than the conventional 8-10ml standard tanks .... Els do what the guys above said, to mimic the look, get perpex strips cut to size and silicone it on ;)

Or you can have borders sandblasted black before install.... May be to give a neater finish coz black silicone is not easy to use with a polished neat finish

If the black border is done with silicone before assembling the tank, wouldnt this.make the tank joins weaker as the silicone used to assemble only sticks to the silicone border instead of to the glass?
