The debate on the use of bio balls(or nitrate bombs as they have been referred to) is a topic on it's own. I want to know if anyone is using them in their overflow box?

The water that gushes over the edge makes a mo*r of a noise sometimes and I think by adding some bioballs(maybe half or 1/3 of the overflow box) it could reduce some of the noise. Given the fact that water will be flowing over it at a reasonable rate, can I assume that it won't become a small nitrate factory?:whistling:

Look, if the water is passed through enough filter wool medium to ensure that no solid waste matter can be trapped in the bio balls and wrot, the balls should be of a benifit.
    Thats my view.

My Old setup also had Bio Balls in the overflow for th very same reason and I never had a problem, like Sean said just make sure the water flow is fast.

My logic says that if you once a week disturb the balls, turn it, or just take them out and dump them directly back in, then any trap stuff should be washed out.

so there should be no problem.
