I'm posting this thread out of our forum.

I've found a platform for experiment and thought if not why not ?

The contenders : Old Deltec APF800 vs RED DEVIL 850HOB Skimmer

The Challenge : Connected to the same inlet sump of an SPS holding tank.

QUESTION ? Do 2 skimmers in the same water column cancel each other out ? ONLY answer if you experimented ? as I noticed something interesting ???

I run two TS1s in my sump because a TS2 wouldn't have fitted. It's difficult to explain how they work, but 1) They definately do NOT skim the same, 2) BOTH units does get very nice coffee, 3) generally when I clean the one, the other will skim more and visa versa, and 4) They definately not 'cancel each other out'.

I have since modified my setup so a bigger skimmer will fit, so something more decent is definately on the shopping list in the not too distance future. For now however, they are working very nicely, in the same compartment right next to each other.

    FYI..

When I clean the right side one now (that's about two days worth), the left one will get most of the gunk and the right one will remain almost clean.

Some nice coffee there though

    Hi Andre,

I’m pleased it was salvageable – certainly looks to be working well.

    Nice!

An experiment ive always wanted to try was to run 2 identical skimmers, one skimming wet and one skimming dry. Will you get the best of both worlds regarding skimming dry and wet? Or will they cancel each other out?
