Has anybody experienced any ill effects from using normal plastic storage containers in their systems? I am wanting to use a 189 litre plastic container that is not marked as food safe but advertised for storing kids toys and what not, basically just a run of the mill plastic drum.

Get the food grade containers - not worth the risk of wiping out your entire tank...

Lost a ton of livebearers after acclimating in those 80L open top round tubs with the rope handles - which was the standard plastic stuff...

its all about what plastic it is made of? i worked in the plastic industry, some plastics when heated give off a kind of poison if you can call it that. but hey i could be wrong.

imo we should be more worried about people smoking in the house, deodrants/creams on hands, petrol/diesal on our hands, any tools etc we use, I think there is more that we do not see.
