Hi Dean - got one recently..... mine's hiding away most of the time. Last night I saw it for the 1st time "out in the open" (just outside the entrance of the cave-system in my tank)....
I target feed the vicinity where I think he is in, every 2nd of thrid day.... I have read conflicting articles, where they say this fish is a VERY slow eater, and that it does not eat too often (mostly meat eater - and in the wild, it catches life foods).... another web-site said that this fish must be fed daily....
Mine seems to be doing fine.... I have also read that it could take some time before they do indeed decide to make their appearance.....
I always wanted one of these - ever since I saw it in a very old marine keeping book that I have.....
The only thing to be beware of: it might chow down on your existing fish - if they are small enough to catch.... and if they might happen to wander into it's lair in the rock-work...
Otherwise - they say that it is a hardy fish....
BTW: I have not yet SEEN mine eat yet - it just target feed it pieces of pink-shrimp... and sometimes pieces of hake.... I am sure that this fish eats, because he looks healthy (not showing any signs that he is becoming thinner and thinner)....
BTW: not a very active fish...
