    Afternoon gents and ladies.

Would love to know what is the best way to cool a gutter filter using a mini fan. My question really should read where should the fan be siutated according to the pics below.

    Should it be....

    1. Be positioned over the recently made mini refrigeriums with air being blown onto them?
    2. Be positioned over the recently made mini refrigeriums with air being blown away from them?
    3. Be positioned over the mini skimmer outlet with air being blown onto it?
    4. Be positioned over the mini skimmer outlet with air being blown away from it?
Any advice would be great. Many thanks ahead of time

Best form of evaporative cooling is blown accross water surface.... Also best to run across largest surface for quicker effect

STC-1000 I have a Sun Sun tank with a complete cover over the top as per the photo. The only open areas which I can direct a fan onto to aid in cooling are the ones I mentioned.

Pick one of the four options if you had to choose one :p

Yes I do have a feeding flap but you are unable to fit anything to that area like a fan. Regardless the opening is a mere 100mm wide anyways. What I do though is leave the flap open all day.

Today on returning home from work my tank was sitting at a steady 26.2 degC. Down from its usual 27 degC. So in a nutshell the little fan is making a difference already

100ml is over enough for pc fans, I had 2 on my feeding flap and kept tank stable .... But ur fan on refug is working, so if u wana drop lower, just add more fans .... Glad its working out

    Hi Shaun

Placing the fan so that is can bring in "fresh air" as it where will be the best option.

It is the evaporation on the water that "cools" your tank

Also keep inmind the humidity of the room as a whole will play a huge part in this, make sure there is a window open close to the tank this will also help.

Another option to expor is the air inside the hood itself where the lights are, a small extrator fan here could also go a long way to stabalise tempretures.

So many thanks for all the advice. If I may say the mini fan is working too well now

I am not used to my temps staying below 26degC

To add a removed the feeding flap so there is a constant gap open on the lid to allow heat caused by the lighting to escape. Water loss due to evaporation is annoying though :whistling:
