Hey guys I have a question, please i need real experienced answers no fan boy type of answers from people that simply haven't used anything else.. :whistling:

What is the best skimmer available for around R2000-00?

The options I currently have are :

Bubble Magus bm 150 aquabee pump,
BM NAC7 CONE atman 2500 pump,
Aqua excel which is R400 more with two atman pumps model no. ae-1000.

This is for a 450lt heavy stocked set up with magnifica anemone, sps and angels, but budget wont allow for more expenditure than this on a skimmer.

Any suggestions which is the best option or any other skimmers better in that price range?

    Thanks.

TS2 is a good skimmer. Its like the masa standard lol..There are better skimmers but for the money I don't think anyone can complain. For SPS I would get a better skimmer (like reef orca) or atleast dose vodka with a TS2. You could also fit a pin wheel impellar to a TS2 or do the enkamat mod... I think if you get a ts2 then dose vodka with that. Please search masa for dosing vodka. Read alot before you do anything :)

Oh yeah! For R2000 put up a skimmer wanted ad in the wanted section. Get a 2nd hand skimmer :) .. (however the pumps on skimmers only last so long so keep this in mind when getting a second hand skimmer)

Thanks that seems like a very good competitor to the ones i mentioned above definitely an option,I will keep an eye out for that also, have you ever seen theses above to compare?:)

Sorry guys but on my 680lt tank I am already running a competitor to the ts2/3 (a via aqua sk388) which IMO is better so here for my new tank I was ideally looking something far far better than the ts series can provide as the octx 160 is a reef octo extreme and these BUBBLE MAGUS's are in that league, all are much better than my via aqua sk388 or the ts range which imo is anyway over rated.but thanks for the input.

Thanks nice pics, how many days of skimmate is that?

riaan boet dont believe everything a manufacturer claims;) in that case my via aqua sk 388 is rated at 1500l?lol never.and yet it skims as good as any ts3 ive seen.

remember the manufacturer of junk like jebo etc also claim 600liters etc hence experience with a skimmer is the only truth.

As I said, I got a TS2. it works OK for me.

Actually on my 350L display at the moment I run a TS1. Complete system with refugium cryptic and sump taken into account is about 500L.
Due to size of sump, TS2 do not fit in sump nor under the old stand I had. And I'm happy with the TS1. Only problem is that I have to empty the cup every second day.

My next change is to replace the sump, then I will use the TS2.

So again, for brand new skimmer, I stand by my TS2 suggestion.
Secondhand, yes sure can get a bigger rated one easily.

Also, speak to your LFS, organize your discount. Or check when they have a special. Like Marco had. I know Lanzo/Dorry got those bling bling skimmers on special, but they are more than 2grand. But still a good price.

That is wet skimming. Light colour.

My TS1 and TS2 is set that it really smells when you take that lid off. Well sometimes you can even smell that you need to clean the cup as you walk past the tank. Dark thick cream on the inside of the neck.

believe me when i say its dark, and theres a thick sludge on the inside neck thats caked on there, lol i quickly taught the maid how to clean it:p but its irrespective i'm not here to argue for via aqua etc i just want something much better than these we talking about and so i posted some pics to illustrate this. ive seen ts1, 2 and three in action and its not good enough for me i want more ;)

so far the only decent enough suggestion has been from rakabos, anyone else?
