This is a very general guide as the behavioural patterns of fish vary from species to species.




Glancing off rocks, coral or substrate

Velvet, whitespot or toxins

Fins clamped
Velvet, whitespot or toxins

Fins constantly erect
Sign of impending death

Loss of balance, sluggishness

Water too cold or possible disease

Severe loss of balance
Swim bladder disease

Gasping at surface
Water too hot, lack of oxygen (O²), excessive carbon dioxide (CO²) or toxins

Sudden dashes, even out of water
Lice, flukes, low pH or toxins

Unusual colours, dark colours
Ichthyosporidium, toxins or nervous system interference (electrical)

Failure to eat as usual
Bullying or toxins

Failure to eat from start
Wrong food, possible cyanide poisoning

For white spot .. what is lowest salinity i can reduce to without harming my shrimps & crab ?
