    Hi everyone

Im a first time reefer, live in CapeTown,Melkbosstrand.
My tank is 1200mm x 500mm x 700mm(h) shud be +-500l, I have not started my tank up yet because im moving in 2 months so i want to use this an opportunity to gain the most knowledge i can about setting up a reef aquarium and which stores to buy livestock and products from and etc.

I have 2 sumps a glass one and a plastic black one (going to use glass one)been looking into making a refugium, got my protein skimmer, submersible filter pumps-dolphin 3000l/hour and like 3 more 1000l/hour,2 heaters, and a water vibrator or summin like that haha for inside the tank,it just plugs straight into the power,i wna get a wavemaker idk if its that neccessary but it looks awesome ,i have lights but they arent new,and they not T5 ,have live sand already, got it given to my by the friend i bought the setup from and UV light for sump.

My next step is to buy a water testing kit and a RO filter ,maybe a wavemaker if i can get one at good price but they still expensive.

thank you for the warm welcome MASA

I am sure @monarc would like to know the pro's and con's of why to remove the bio balls. Care to explain the reasons?

I use bio bio ball in most tanks to remove ammonia and nitrate. Also in denitrifies so I do not see the reason.

If you keep up with maintenance and make sure you keep them clear of dentritus they are great!

    Sure Keith!
    Give a newbie bio balls!

In this age of busy schedules tank maintenance is very hard.yes bio balls can be great, but you need to take real good care of them.

Bio balls can cause issues if not well maintained, we both know that.

That little skimmer, its too small for your system. Like putting a 1100cc motor in a double cab 4*4.
It will go forward, but you will be severely limited by its performance.

The sump layout? what do you plan? The small middle section is too small for a DSB. Again, it will work, but same scenario, little 1100cc where you need a 3L or bigger engine. You can always cut the dividers out and move them. But first get yourself a better skimmer and then check the spacing needed.
