    Hi

Beginner who would like to start with an invertebrate tank (not sure of size!)
    • What would be the optimal 'small' size to start with (bearing in mind the effect of changes in a small tank)?
    • Any specific type of tank - nano etc?
    • What is the list of equipment needed for an invertebrate tank start up?
    • Any ideas on the mix of invertebrates that would make the tank really interesting to view?
    • Any advice on on hard, soft or live corals?
    • Any recommendation on make (local or import)?
    Many Thanks!

    Hi wayne
    welcome to MASA!!!

i see u in jhb, where abouts?
i am in sandton, we can have a beer and chat reefs tanks if u keen.

but a nice 4ft, 1200x500x500mm is a great starter tank, one would need a skimmer, heater, return pump and powerheads, plus a sump under the tank to start.

also good lights, t5's for soft and LPS corals, great for beginners, plus a range of shrimps, crabs etc will make a great viewing piece..

    gimme a shout

    hi there:)

welcome to MASA its great to have you here. and very nice to hear that you like inverts, there really are some facinating creatures to keep. But please research carefully as some people take on soe of the prettier but harder things to keep (nudibranches for example) and thats not a good idea.

I agree!! BUT, if you don't perform proper research upfront, you gonna frustrate the living crap out of yourself!!! Research and Planning is key to a successful tank. It will save you loads of money and frustrations..;)

Welcome to MASA, looks like you got some good advice from the guys already. If I may, go to the meetings and get togethers - you'll be amazed at how much you learn, especially when seeing other setups.
Read through the link in my signature for some great info on how to setup your first marine tank.
    Keep us updated ;)
