So Blackberry's BBM service has been officially released, eventually, and is slowly becoming available on iPhones and Android, so there's no more need to buy a crapberry anymore just for the bbm. :p Who's happy? :whistling:

go to bbm.com on your phone, you will then be directed to download the app, then you have to enter your email address and wait for them to release it for you, apparently they are doing it in waves so as to protect their servers or something.

yup found its on the itunes store and installed it. Prompts for you email and then you go into a virtual queue to be able to access it. read a rumor the android version has been postponed to the 24th.

I downloaded the Android version last night.

No, it comes out of your normal data, just like whatsapp or iMessage.

Lol, where have you been the last half decade... Lol, just kidding...
Agree, BBM does the same as mixit did 8 years ago... Just looks fancier & slightly more reliable.

I would download it but I really see no need. Anyone out there that actually *wants* to use a crapberry can use whatsapp anyway.

Well, my kids are on BB.
SO yeah, for them I'm still on BB as well. R200 package, all included per kid, phone, data, calls, BBM and what not. It was a no brainer.

If I wanted something else, then I have to upgrade 3 phones together. Hmm. Yeay they can WatchApp, but then the databundle runs out. And when I got them the phones, non of the other smartphones had any package that even came close on the costs aspect.

So yeah, as with filtration options. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't know if things have changed with the new BB packages etc but originally overseas the BIS stuff was free and other apps that didn't use BIS were charged for but then in SA all the networks didn't charge for non BIS stuff either. I used whatsapp, downloaded stuff etc and was never charged for any data besides the R60/month.

So basically, whatsapp should be free as well. It barely uses any data for "chats" anyway but sending a lot of pictures etc will use data.

Basically the only data you pay for is youtube, but if you watch a video on a forum or facebook from youtube it is still free. I know this because the bb i use is on a prepaid sim and i only load the R59 a month for bis, nothing more. Once this is gone (and it seems all the networks are moving in that direction) there will be no reason at all to get a bb, they are crappy, and those ad messages you get is so annoying !

when using any of the new blackberries like z10,q5 etc you have certain bis (blackberry internet services) packages to choose from that allow certain amount of data for certain amount of money....the R59 per month only applies to the "older" blackberry models....and yes on those "older" ones whatsapp, surfing, email etc is all incl in the R59 per month... so if you want a fancier phone then go for samsung or iphone..if you want a handset for all day everyday communication at the lowest cost then stick with a "older" blackberry.. i guess it all depends on what you want or what you use your phone for...
