Not sure it's legal to keep these in South Africa.

    Hi Wes,

From what I have been told, it's illegal to import them into the country, and there is a grey area regarding whether you're allowed to sell them or not, but from what I have been told and found during my research, if you have them already, you can keep them.

Its not legal....very illegal in fact....you not allowed to keep them full stop as far as I am aware....not judging here, but hope they never loose interest in them as they will be a big probelm if they escape or get released.

As far as controlers go your normal digital temp controllers you get at most pet shops would most likely be good enough, anything from R500-R1500....depending on how fancy....I think Wild on pets should have, look them up.

Thanks archiecrain, I will have a look through the site and see what I can find. I have been trying my best to find the actual law regarding them, and the more I look, the more confused I get, everyone has a different opinion, it is really frustrating, I must be honest.

I remember reading about it back when I was into reptiles dont quote me, but Im sure they are already on the "Black List" and carry hefty fines or jail time for posessing exotic terrapins without a permit. Little buggers pose a serious threat of becoming invasive....so proceed with much caution and perhaps re-think wether its worth it

have a look here should find something insightful here http://www.sareptiles.co.za/forum/portal.php

If live stock don't worry only if it is some kind of gadget or measuring thing....
