    Hi All

    My Bali Green Slimer SPS frag is dying. I spoke to Tekkengal and she mentioned that it could be RTN. I did a complete watch param check and everything looks fine.

    NH3 = 0
    NO2 = 0
    NO3 = 5
    PH = 8.2
    Alk = 6 (This is down 1 from 7, could this be the problem?)
    Mg = 1350
    Ca = 360

    Your Alk is way too low try to bring it up to 8.5... You sure your ph is 8.2? Alk & ph work hand in hand so if the alk is low it's more than likely the ph is low too...

    I have upped the supplement to increase my Alk but it will take a few days. I have read that I need to take it slow, correct? Tested PH twice and got same result so test kit could be incorrect?

    Re pH and test kits... open to interpretation again...... Its the stability of params which matter as much (in some cases more) than the actual parameter.

    Not a definite reason, but considering test kits are really just open to interpretation, actual value could be lower.

    An alk reading of 6 does not mean you will automatically have a low pH..... It just means you will more than likely have an unstable pH..

    A lot depends on the tank of origin vs your tank. Temp, Salinity.... Lights...

    Add different params, lighting, flow......

    Any stressor will cause this.

    How long has your tank been running? Algae on the very barren rockwork indicative of a tank still settling?

    Considering above...
    RTN recipe for success.

    Ask yourself, You come from a system where params are stable, you have been in there for a while..... Assuming the Ca and alk were more in the range of what most reefrs keep it at, 400ppm / 7-9dKH, and suddenly your comfort zone is pulled out from under you....

    Stress...

    I agree with Irie Ivan..i don't think its the actual kh, but more the problem with stability...fluctuating kh parameters are known to cause stn/rtn..it looks like stn to me as its from the base up
