was thinking of fitting a ug filter in my 60l tank with argonite on top.dont wanna use it as a filter.just thought its a nice way of keeping it clean if i put a power head on in reverse once a month to blow the bottom clean.

Hi Louw - were you planning in using the aragonite as a Deeb sand bed in the nano?

This is not the best of ideas, as below +-5cm the sand/aragonite mostly becomes anoxic, and some detritus breaks down, and becomes sulfides (the black blotches sometimes seen in DSBs/sand beds) - and these sulfides are toxic to fish and invertebrates....

When you do what you want to do, you can release these sulfides into the water column, which could cause problems.....

You can indeed put the undergravel filter in, just never connect a power-head to it... IT will then become what they call a plenum....
