My Dt is against the back wall, but where there is no LR, it does look a bit grubby having to look at the wall behind through the tank, and I think I definatly have to put a backdrop against it. I was thinking maybe a dark blue. What is the best to use, what colour and where do you get it? I can only really think of wrapping paper or something like that in a book store.

    Please help or comment.

Paint it black or blue. I prefer black myself. ;)
Else you can use blue or black perspex also works great although a lot more expensive.

wrapping paper is not that great idea. water will make streaks on it and at the end you must replace. try to use a plastic sheet or go to a sign shop with the size and ask then to make you a board with pvc to use if dirty wipe off and put back. Dark blue to navy would look nice.

Like kunhardt mentioned. Instead of using Perspex, get yourself 0.9mm ABS sheeting. It is very cheap. Probably cheaper than a small can of paint. I use the black ABS sheeting :)

Cool, whats this ABS sheeting? Sounds worth looking into as Les is building me a new tank and will need backing myself, where would I look for it?

As kunhardt post you can paint it but make sure the glass is completely clean before you paint espesially the sea salt else the paint is going to flake off

It is basically a thinner version of perspex. Try Maizey Plastics. I get mines from them.

Yes, top and sides, cut the plastic +/- 5 mm smaller than your tank

I got tank backing from a LFS and was rather cheap!
It's blue that gets darker as it goes to the bottom of the tank!

    Looks stunning

I have just been to maizey palstics, their curaflex in 2mm is R45 for 2m's and the royal blue vinyl to go over is R45 also.

JD - Maizeys Plastics is in Paarden Island..... You can get from them.
I used "black building plastic" to cover the back of my tank..... doesn't look bad at all.

Sentari - no - not really. The glass and water cancels out the "glossyness" - and believe me - over time the micro algae still grows over the glass surface, removing any real "gloss" from the backing.

The only thing that you might get, with ANY dark backing, is it's reflectiveness in the beginning - you might get your fish mock-fighting with their own reflections..... but that stops soon in any case ;)
