    Hi everybody,

I am looking for a auto top up unit, having a problem with my existing one, got stuck for the 2nd time in 5 months. At 12 am this morning was awoken by a snarling pump and no water in my RO chamber. Ended up dumping about 25lt into my sump.

This would really suck if I was dosing kalk, but luckily not at the moment. The bad thing is that it is now bringing my SG down.

So please if you would pm me a model, make, price, a contact no etc, would appreciate that.

    Thank you,

    Seabass

I got 2 SAGA units. In my opinion, they are the best.

You can set it, either 1, 2 or 3 minutes. If the top level is not reached, or switch is stuck within that time limit. Then it will stop pumping and an alarm will go off. So it cannot turn your tank into freshwater.

Check if you have a AC/DC store. I have one running for 6 years trouble free. It cost me just R80.

Can only pump RO for the time frame you set it. If water level did not reach the top float, it switch off. So it cannot flood your sump. And that also save your RO pump. If RO chamber is empty, it will also not be able to reach the top float, and again it will stop.

Using ATU via Kalkwasser reactor. You have to be able to trust the ATU with your live(stock).

The SAGA is not cheap. A lot of other options out there, from DIY to timers or whatever. Your choice. But I believe and trust my SAGA unit.

Is there nothing growing on the float switch? I had the same problem once, then noticed those large feather duster worm casings growing on it and causing it to stick. I cleaned it up and its never been an issue again

Dude get a SAGA, I had one of the AC/DC DIY float switch one's. the switch got stuck and dumped my entire Kalk stirrer's content in my tank. The water looked like milk - lost a clown, bi-color blenny, 2 Brittle-stars, sand-shifter, Regal, and 6 SPS colonies. R 1100 is worth it.

Looks like either a SAGS or Tunze unit. Need safety especially if I end up dosing Kalk again in the future.

Man that loss is terrible, I love bicolor blennies and have just started with SPS, so safety is important.

this unit is worth every cent..

the reason is that there is hardly a chance that both the infra red sensor and the float switch will fail for the same reason as they are 2 different methods of measurement

    use it dont use it..;)

I do not know the Tunze unit, just a question.
When it operates, does it also have a limited time it can run. What happens for example if the RO chamber is empty? Does it shut down, or does the RO pump keep on pumping nothing?

    Next Q
Does the oscillating pump supplied, fit into the white drums lid opening?

If RO is empty I think you have just lost a R 2000 tunze item. :( hope G replies.

I use the Aquamedic SP 3000 auto top up system (+/- R1300), which uses a peristaltic pump. I have used one for a long time with no hassles. It does have a float switch which I agree could be prone to failure so I fitted a second one as a failsafe which is always out of the water to switch of the pump if the water level in my sump gets too high because the standard 1st float swicth failed. THe second float switch doesn't suffer from salt creep or other normal causes of failure because its not ever submersed until required to act as a fail safe.
