    hi guys.
i am in need of a auto top up pretty badly..
after having my reef octopus topup and flood my flat. AGAIN!
for the past few days i have been doing manual topups and its driving me nuts!!
these reef octopus auto topups are really really CR*P!! i have now heard of a couple of cases where they have just kicked in and flooded tanks with freshwater!!

does anyone have a spare auto topup for sale?
a secondhand SAGA would be ideal but i'm currently game on anything!!
    any offers are welcome!

i am going to fork out and get one of those SAGA's i think. alas time is not on my side. i dont have the time to run around and buy supplies to make the topup.
going away on holiday soon. and currently writing exams. so i have very little time.
i have source float switches tho, closest i could find to me is near gold reef city! OUCH!!

Furbz, I had the same nonsense with my Reef Octopus top up, what I did was change the float switch and it never gave me a days trouble after that, I think they have used really crappy chinese float switches on those units.

The float switch cost me about R75 I think and all I did was cut off the old one, joined the two wires to the new one and it was perfect.

Get a decent float switch, a small 500LPH pump, a non return valve and some airline tubing and you're on your way. Cut the wire of the carefully to expose the live and neutral, cut one of the wires only. The float switch has two wires, hook one up to the one side of the severed wire and the other to the other side to complete the circuit. Seal it up with unsulation tape and ass the airline tube to the outlet of the pump with the non return valve so water doesn't back siphon if your return is hooked up to a stirrer. PLace the float switch at your water level, clean the glass where you're going to stick it well and fasten it with some double sided tape. Voila

Hydor make those little pico pumps that do about 350lph or any other small pump will do. Most guys will sell non return valves for air pumps

I dont know why people still buy these units.I would never again spend my money on a Reef Octopus auto top-up unit:whistling:The suppiers should actually reimburse us;)

My one also gets stuck very often so I would suggest buying a new float switch. There are some cool ones out there:)
