I got an urgent phone call from my maid to say that water was pouring over the top of my tank. I knew immediately that it could only be the auto top up as the tank is sumpless. I quickly dashed home to find a mess of note. Luckily I work 2 mins away from home.
I switched off the whole tank to stop the flow and had to dash back to work.

It looks like around 30L of RO water has been dumped into the DT. The RO unit is the SAGA double float switch unit. I really thought that they were fool proof and that this could not happen. The tank is around 330L. The float switches have not come loose from the tank and are still securely attached so I have no idea why this has happened. I keep them clean of algae and check them regularly.

I leave work at 4:00 so I will then check the salinity.

I am too scared to just switch the unit back on.

I know the reef angel comes with a timer and after 20 seconds it turns off the ato

Turn on the flow pumps drain the DT a little so its at normal level.
Check the salinity. If its not to low, you will have to add saltwater slowly over the next few days to raise the salinity.

the salinity shouldnt have dropped to much, let us know the readings and go from there

Thanks people! I will be home in half an hour and can then test the salinity.

    Hi Dallas,

Can you tell me how to adjust the time?

What a pity, it's a real mess when that happens. It is a good idea to make sure you buy an automatic top up with as many safety features as possible

Okay - salinity sitting at 0.22 so I have added some salt water and will add more tomorrow and so on until it is back to normal.
Fish all seem to be okay just some of the corals are sulking. Could have been worse. The top up tank was only half fill.

    Thanks everyone.

    Cool Dallas:)

I got two of those units, and they are failsafe, unless you did not set the time.

Button on the right, set the time, both red leds top right out (under the word sec), it is set to continuous, then you got a problem. Press once, Top light only, 60 seconds, press again, buttom light, 120 seconds, press once more, both leds on, 180 seconds. Then it will cycle again to both leds off.

The unit is off at the moment but the timer was definitely not set as I was not aware of it. I want to first raise the salinity and then I will reset the unit correctly.
