Auto Top Off

    Hi Guys

    I am using one of those reef octo ATO.

    Last night I got home and even though the float switch switched off the pump, it was still siphoning water into my sump???

    What am I doing wrong? The pump is well below the sump......

    syphoning or pumping?
    I have one of these they sometimes get stuck in the on positon.

    is the float switch dirty? Mounted horizontally straight?

    what about the container holding ro water? is it lower than the sump? mine did the same thing the other day.

    Hi.

    Yes, it was siphoning....tested switch, was working, so the switch did switch of the pump when it reached the level, but the water just kept on flowing.....

    The RO chamber is part of the sump, so same level....and pump is on the bottom of chamber.

    The pipe only goes straight up, and over the glass....

    The RO container is most likely higher than your sump, Or the full level in the container is higher than your sump level.

    The exit point of the RO should NEVER be in the water. Else it will siphon into either direction. If it siphon into RO chamber then your ATU will continuously switch on and off.

    If your RO container is too high, then use a short piece of conduit pipe that is longer then the container is high. Cut one side at 45 degree angle, that end will be the bottom end. Put the conduit upright in your sump, Does not really matter where, but do not plant it in your DSB. Put the RO exit point inside the conduit.

    This way there is no splashing and salt spray. There cannot be any siphon either way.

    dont let the top up pipe not enter the sump water level

    Actually the exit point should never be below the full mark in the RO chamber.
