    Hi All

My GF father has a Audi 2.0 A4 multitronic '06 (non turbo), it has about 55 000Km on the clock now, but from about 45 000Km it started using oil, it now uses 1 pint per 1000km. He took it to Alpine motors, the local Audi agents, to have it checked out, but guess what they told him...... thats normal consumption!!! :wtf: .... I need to get some of the shit they smoke!!!
I mean, I have a 2.7 hilux which I "burn" and I have yet to even see the level drop between services.

Come to think about it, that means he would have used about 7.5ltrs every 15 000Km, I wonder why they want to change the oil on the service if its been done already :whistling:

Has anyone had a similar problem, I would be keen to hear!

    Thanks

Can't be normal consumption. I have an A6 2.8 Quattro tiptronic, doesn't use a drop of oil, got about 120 000km's on the clock. Get a 2nd or 3rd opinion, they probably said that because they don't want the kak job of working on an Audi engine.

Definately not normal, like you said, they just don't want to work on it, or perhaps waiting for it to go out of warranty so they can charge for the repair?

    BTW, NICE RIDE DUDE!

I have the A4 2.0TDI and hardly ever need to fill up the oil. But according to the actual manual it does say that it could use that amount. So I guess the guys read the manual and since it says it there they dont want to do any work. I would go to another dealer though.

It looks like it's a common problem, with the later models Audi, Justin.

One of the URLs state that it is because of the thin synthetic oils that the new Audi's use.

    Also read this:
    (quote):
"As a recommendation, when you add your next quart, go with a oil of higher viscosity (if you are adding 5w, use 10w; if 10w, use 15w). The higher weight oil is within Audi's recommended oil grades; the increased viscosity will increase the oil's thickness, which should reduce the overall consumption rate."

It could also possibly be that 53000km's is "still running in"..... :)

55000km there shouldnt be any issues at all!! esp with a newer car.
could be valves not seating correctly??
or maybe the timing is a little off?

is his exhaust abnormally black with oil??

The question here is, where is the oil going to?
Is it simply leaking onto the floor or pumping out the exhaust?

If it is loosing oil, it needs to be established from where...

Next thing, I don't believe that there should be an oil consumption, maybe if he drills the life out of it through every gear all the time, he could expect some losses, but no where near what you have described. The viscosity of the oil isn't going to stop the consumption, that is a guarantee...

That's what you get when you buy an expensive car :)

Only playing - Audi Free Way plan will fix it! take it back & get them to sort it out

could be tolerance issues - rings, valves

Aparently Audi SA involved now and looking at it on the 14th.

Not dripping, so it either burning it out the exhaust or pushing it through to the box....

Considering the volumes you speak of, if it was going out the exhaust - it would surely be smoking quite a bit.

The oly other car I have heard of which can leak this much oil and still keep on running was my VW Combi, I had a 1971 van which used about 1 pint per day - I resorted to an oil pan on the garage floor so that I can get some of my oil back which was leaking out. The oly other good leaker is a Ford, no matter the gaskets used on those older models, they just always leaked somewhere but no where near this sort of oil consumption.

I hope you come right because it is a substantial problem...
