    Hello MASA

Thought I would lay the ground work down for this thread so long. I have had freshwater tanks for about a year now and have finally decided to move the marine side of life. I have spent the last two weeks planning this tank and the big weekend has finally arrived. Just want to say thanks to @Ayoob for giving me advice and most importantly, for putting together my perfect tank (my DIY track isn't very impressive so glad to have someone who knows what they are doing putting this beauty together).

    The tank
    -90 x 90 x 60 Opti white cube [12mm, Euro-bracing top and bottom]
    Sump
    -80 x 60 x 35
    -4 compartments
    : Inlet (filter socks)
: Skimmer area (enough space for couple more reactors etc.)
    : RO reserve
    : Return chamber

    Total volume: +/- 630lt

    Equipment
    -Skimmer: JNS Cone S 3
-Lighting: Radion Gen 1 with TIR lenses
    -Flow pumps: 2*Macro aqua D3's
    - 300w heater
    - Return pump: Diablo DC 5000lt/h

I have about 70-80kgs of live rock (Kenyan and Fiji mix) waiting to go into the tank. Still have to decide on the scaping but that will be decided on Saturday.

Only a couple of pics for this first post but after Saturday I should have quiet a few more.

Awesome size! Is 1 Radion fine for that size?

It looks like you have huge lego blocks under your tank

    awesome!

with 1 radion about 30cm high you should get good coverage, you can prob go 20cm and be fine
    i use 2 on a 1250x800

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I did quiet abit of research and most people say that 1 radion with the TIR lenses should be able to illuminate a 90cm x 90cm area. To be safe I probably won't be putting any corals on the outskirts of the tank just want light so the fish look good.

Need a abit of input with regard to wave pump placement. I have 4 ideas for aquascaping, I think they should all look pretty cool. Sorry for the amateur hour picture (courtesy of paint). The red stripe on the pics indicates that the live rock is a forming a tunnel. I have been advised against option 3 because of debris settlement behind the rocks.

    So two questions for MASA:
1)Which design would be the best in terms of maintaining really good water quality (preventing debris settlement)
    2) Is the pump placement correct for the designs?

Would really appreciate any help. Thanks

Ok so tank is set up, still need to scape and will hopefully be able to upload pics abit later.

Just have a quick question, the volute of the JNS skimmer keeps popping off and I can't seem to get the skimmer to skim without it overflowing none stop. It is already producing nice tea colour skimmate water so its quiet a beast but can't seem to get it to dry skim.

The water level is sitting at the upper recommended limit (10 inches). Is my water level too high? Is the volute meant to be detachable?

    Thanks

Abit late but here are the pics of the tanks progress thus far. First couple of pics from the setup. First fish was a catfish apparently. Trying out the radions which my dearest brother bought for me (thought I would still have to save up). There was mountains of condensation because of the heat.

Halfway to final product. First rockscape was just a slap dash effort, just wanted to get the rock inside to measure displacement. VERY happy with the JNS skimmer. It was producing lots of wet, light brown skimmate from the word go. Eventually we managed to get it working properly and it starting pumping out nice dark skimmate almost immediately.

    My to do list:
    1) Put flow pumps in, should be collecting those tomorrow.
    2) Mount radion lighting unit. My roof is solid concrete and I don't want to go through all the hassle of drilling through my concrete roof so I was thinking of getting an on tank mount custom made from clear perspex.
    3) Mod the overflow to make it quieter (idea is on this thread: Noisy standpipe - Marine Aquariums South Africa)

One quick question on cycle times: I have about 60kgs of live rock in the tank, it was all bought live and due to dropping water levels in my holding tank I think about 10kgs of it ended up dying. The tank was filled with water from the aquarium. Any estimates on cycle times?

Thanks everyone. It's going to be a mixed reef. Mounted the Radions today and the wave pumps are in so now its just the cupboard and the overflow modification. Should be done by the end of next week so hopefully soon I will be able to start stocking the tank, time to start the hunt for frags ha ha.
