    Hi everyone,

I've learnt so much this past weekend about marine tanks.

I want to start a marine aquarium

I would like so help please, here are my questions,

    1. Should I buy a new tank or can I get a used one?
    2. I'm thinking of getting a red sea tank?
    3. Should I start big or small?
    4. If I buy a used tank with livestock, how do I transport it?

I'm based in greenstone, is there anyone in the area who I
    can chat to.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Depends. But I would start of with a second hand tank. Check the for sale section.
Anywhere between 220L and max 500L is a nice starting system. Bigger than 500L and equipment and startup costs increases a lot.
Smaller than 200 and it is more difficult to get the parameters stable. Much steeper learning curve. Not impossible, I started with a 90L.

Run any old secondhand system for 6 months, and thereafter you will (hopefully, we al keep on changing our own systems) know what you want. Then you start re-planning and thinking of what you want.

Most of us started out with a secondhand all in one tank like the red sea's / boyu's or jbj nanocube etc.
This gives you a good starting place, & helps you build some knowledge/ background / confidence.
Once you start having success with it, & you want to upgrade, then you can look at something larger (diy or custom build) to fit your needs.
Also, like @RiaanP mentioned... Better to start with a medium sized tank (I would suggest 150-300l for a start) & then go bigger or smaller depending on what you looking for!
