    hi guys and girls...

    Please can someone assist me?

I have made a boo-boo... As a result of my paranoia, I have made a sump for my external skimmer. The skimmer is a Reef Octopus DNW150. The pipe that feed the skimmed/clean water into the DSB/Return chamber is too short...

I would like to know if I can extend this pipe without interferring with the operations of the skimmer... Currently the return pripe from the skimmer is at the height of the cone - so I am scared that increasing the height of the return pipe may push the skimmer out of equilibrium. There is the pipe to adjust the height in the skimmer chamber and am not sure if this will compensate for it...

Here is a picture of my dirty work...

    Please assist...

    Thx in advance...

Why a sump for an external skimmer ? Kinda defeats the object.

Changing the height & length of pipes is not recommended (a client explained to me once how friction , head height etc influences pump performance). Why not just lift the skimmer ?

Hey FransSny - I know it defeats the purpose of having an external skimmer - but the setup is next to my kitchen and borders the lounge. Cannot afford to redo the kitchen if a leak is sprung - am tired as I just completed the kitchen recently.

Ok, that may seem like a better idea - will have to look for something to place it on, else, make some stands from extra 50mm pvc pipes for the base....

    Thanks again...

LOL...Hear what you are saying , I had a RO unit spring a leak inside my kitchen cupboard...suffice to say was not very popular with the missus.

I just use an old sandwich addis container to raise my skimmer BTW
