Iv come across a few HPS and MBF lamps with full ballasts, reflectors and bulbs in 400w. Are these any good for a marine fish tank?

.....unfort my google seems to be acting up so I cant research them at the mo.

No they aren't suitable for reef tanks. They would be fine for a fish only tank though.

It will be AWESOME for an algae scrubber, though! ;)

Yes they would... (if you could find a suitable place for that huge fitting and the scrubber)

I was rethinking my comment about ok for a fish only, they would probably cause quite a bit of algae growth there especially as nutrient levels will likely be higher in a FO tank.

YEP EXACTLY!Just plug in a 400w single ended metal halide and then viola you have metal halides.HPS stands for high pressure sodium and it also uses the same capacitor and ballast system as the MH:)

only down side is that it is 400w so for bigger systems only as they chow power like no mans business, are there any lower wattage ones?if you want 20000k 400w mh globes pm me i'll organise some....

Unfort being the old factory lights....they are pretty much all the same. And I gotta go thru a whole process before I can buy any...the joys of working for an international company.
Waiting to hear if I can buy them, Then if I get the go ahead...then its to check which are in working order and which arnt.
