    Hey Guys

I while back I posted the 4FT L Tank thread. The tank was resting on polystyrene directly on to the frame (got it from the LFS like that). It was recommended that I should place a wood support under the tank.

I just to to find out what the ocnsensus is about which wood to use, how and with what to treat it.

I think one sugegstion was 15mm shutterply painted with paint and thinners mix.

Exact recipes for the technical idiot (me) please :whistling:

In the UK we have either marine ply (£££££) or WBP (water and boil proof - much cheaper) if you have a local timber yard or diy shop, tell them what you want to use the wood for and see what they come up with, but a good dose of yacht varnish or gloss paint will help too.

Hi LappiesReef - The shutterply is the best bet. Value for money - water-proof, won't warp at all (due to the many layers of wood used). I would paint it with some paint that is rated "waterproof" as well. The suggestions about mixing it with thinners seems quite good too.

Thanks J. Well informed as always ;)

Tell me, if I go to builders they won't look at me funny if I ask for shutterply? I have never heard of it....

    Any specific thickness?

Hi LappiesReef - ask for shutter-board. The builder's commonly use it. BUT, it has MANY uses otherwise. I think that the one they usually sell "on special" is 18mm thick, and goes for +-R220....
