    Hi all,

Just came back from the shops with a Aquaclear 50 HOB filter.
Going to run Seachem Phosguard and Activated carbon in it.

    Questions:
Is the activated carbon it came with safe to use?
Is the denitrifing media save to use?

    de nitrifying-NO
carbon-YES but not really as effective

also the spong u would wana cut thinner which will alow you more space for other media and also coz it tends to clog up kwicker, but otherwise, awesome buy, works well

    Great thanks DubKorps, much appreciated.
Will only add the Seachem Phosguard tonight, and go buy some carbon tomorrow.

    Hi

you dont want to really fluidise carbon, it just breaks up, passive use is good.
as for the ceramic rings, they can be used but need to be kept clean :)

if you going to run the carbon and phos gaurd in the filter, pack them in a old stocking to stop the breakdown from abrasion

in these filters remember to keep the floss/filter pad clean so that it doesnt add to the strain

all will be passive in stocking bags ,sort of like original media that comes with filter

    chuck them,definately

indeed, wen doing water changes i usualy give everything, including the media a good rinse in the water i removed, and what needs replacing i do 1 time

so these are just some more pointers:thumbup:,if it works for me,it could work for you

    Thanks will do!

Not going to use them, I have a massive skimmer on the tank and dose bacteria.
Just want to get my phos down, could actually just run phos. Not to bothered with carbon :)

    Thanks Dallasg, will do.

    Will do!

    Thanks for the advice!
