    hi there
    Still cycling my tank.
I decided to leave the majano anemones in my tank against your advise to see what happened.
Well they mutiplied fast and grew really quickly.
I shot them tonight with some kalk and I will see the results tommorrow.
I did however see another little chap that a think is a Aptiasia.??
Having not seen one of them before a decided to take a pot at it with the syringe.
    Just it case.
Before I even got close it disappeared down a little tube, very very quickly.
    Is this a aptiasia?
Its very fine, opens like an umbrella. View attachment pic 01.xls

Its in the middle of this pic.
    thanks .
Like i said you cant get close to it.
    its very quick to close.

    cycled or not?

    thanks
my tank has been cycling for 17 days.
I have about 12kg of live rock in the DT or sump.(second hand)
I have a DSB in the sump but its only a few days old.(reggies sand)
I have just changed the substate from coral to reggies sand.
started with bio balls but have been taking a handfull out every day for the past few days. still plenty left.plan to take it all out over time.
protein filter is clear and always has been.
Been testing every day for ammonia and its only ever appeared for one day and was gone again ?.about 10 days agos
nitrite is zero and so is nitrate.
Can I put something into this tank yet?
    PH 8
    1.025
    24 C
was thinking of maybe two cleaner shrimp (recomended by someone) as appose to any fish just yet.
dont want to rush it but can I still expect a spike in ammonia?

agreed, they sound like feather worms, they are good and pretty.

rather try get a pic of something before you inject it, that way we can help you ID things before you kill them.

also generally when ppl say get rid of aptasia and marajano its for a good reason, sometimes they can be left for a while before becomming a problem but other times its best to nuke them when you know what they are and the population is small.

    Hi Richard,

Its not aptasia, so not to worry...leave it! Your tank is still very young and there is no way that a good build up of bacteria (aerobic and anearobic) has formed in your DSB yet! Keep on monitoring your Nitrites. they will remain low for a while and then you should get a spike. Say 5 or 6 times the norm... once this happens it means that enough bacteria has started to form and your tank is reaching "maturity" I would posibly add some flake food or lance fish, shrimp..any of these will cause bacteria to start in your DSB. My tank took 6 weeks and 3 days for the Nitrites to spike and then anly added 1st livestock (Hermit crab and 2 snails). left them for 2 weeks before adding my 1st fish (lawnmower blenny). So patience is the name of the game!!

    Good luck!
