Seems like I just crack the "Supersized Tank" category at a calculated 1040L, this at operating water level and all rocks and sand installed. (maybe the use of the word "crack" isn't such a good idea:whistling:)

So here is a schematic of the system (Schalk, I need lessons in Sketchup !:p).

Okay, so where are we at the moment:
    1) Tank (12mm) and sump (8mm) ordered and paid for
    2) Stand built, but sent back for further bracing. Its a monster, made out of 80mm section angle iron (8mm wall thickness)
    3) Most equiment bought and stored at home incl -
    Skimmer - AM Turboflotor 3000
Sump pump - AM Ocean Runner 3500
    2 x 15000 AM programmable Oceanprops
    2 x AM Aquastar light units with 150wMH + 2 x T5s ea
(pays to have friends in Germany:1:)
    RO unit
    Top up RO controller
50L Pirex bottle that will be used as RO gravity supply
    4) Big hole in the wall, with stone cladding and matching kitchen cupboards

    Pics to follow.

I have been waiting for this one to start !!!!

May i humbly make some suggestions before seeing the pics

i see your sump is 1500 long, awesome big DSB there.... but consider putting the RO chamber next to the pump and running a ATU the reason i say this is that i had a disaster trying the gravity ro top off unit........ and the commercial ATU's available work well, hell you can DIY one for like R100.... BUT the real reason is that the space you have for the RO now you could use as a fuge ...... here you could T off from your return line and have the fuge overflow into the DT.... giving your fish a constant supply of pods .. live pods... meaning you could keep fish that are more of a challenge to keep... copperbands etc etc ... just a thought...

What flow are you looking at in the tank !

WOW AfricaOffRoad - that is going to look SUPER-AWESOME!

I agree with Neil though..... The RO topup should not go on your skimmer's side.....

What kind of ATU are you talking about?
So far I have a level swirch that goes in the pump sump, connected to a solenoid valve that will allow RO to feed from the bottle (50L). Not quite sure of the design you are suggesting, some more detail appreciated?

Looking at the pump curve for the unit I have, it should be pumping around 2800LPH - hopefully enough flow?

The 2 Ocean Props have about 30 000LPH flow between them, that should stir the main tank up a bit:thumbup:

The QT tank will probably run off a big canister filter I have - currently running the gold fish bowl. Will use water from the main tank and then dump from there.

Was thinking of using the DSB as a rerfugium should it be necessary. Will separate it from the skimmer and pump with big pieces of egg grate.

The DT overflow will be on one of the tank sides, with the siphon box glued to the outside of the tank. Going to go with the 3 pipe design like in this example but my lines will come through the bottom of the box, not side.

What's with the JVC Deck? Are you going to play music of waves crashing against the rocks to get the mood in that area?:p

I like the area where you're planning on building the tank. The two totally different layouts should be interesting;)I would've gone a meter wide on this tank:)

He he, holds my Laser jammer from my old E55 Merc.
The Fortuner is too damn slow to even bother with fitting it:nono:

The brown box below it is two sets of 55W Xenons lights I imported from the UK for my then cars.
The H1 and H7 globes dont fit my current vehicles, was wondering if they would work in the DT:lol: if I rigged up a suitable holder lens.

BTW: AfricaOffRoad - those light units are really awesome! I have the bigger brother of these, mate!

I have the 1.2 metre AM OceanLight, with 2 x 150 watt metal halides, and 2 x 54 watt T5's...... A wee bit overpriced, but REALLY AWESOME unit! Are your units also so bloody heavy? Geez! Mine weighs a TON!

Really well made units, mine are exactly half you size, so weight not too bad.
I dont know whats better - 2 smaller units or the bigger combined unit like you have. I suppose, I have a little more versaitility with switching different light combos - will run mine off 2 electronic timers. Will probably also install a small 220v LED downlighter globe that will stay on 24/7 as a moonlight - they only draw about 2-3 watts. Think I may also have to install 2 supplimentary 4ft T5 globes to boost my system should I go the coral route.

Seems like a friend of mine who gave up the hobby couple of years back, has some ex live rock lying around his garden. That's going to help somewhat, but I'm going to have to seed with some bought stuff. Will also try and make 2 "custom" pieces to hide the Prop flows.

On the sand, I'm going to bite the bullet and go with aragonite. In compensation I'll save money by dragging a few 1000L of NSW from the local shore:p.
I need to loose weight anyway ! Nothing like a few slipped discs to take ones appetite away:slayer:

AOR, nice work, I see your QT is plumbed onto your main return, is that only for filling it? dont let that water drain back into the tank in any way, as disease, or even worse, copper from a treatment may get into the DT

I went with the 0.5mm crushed coral, looks and feels like aragonite at a 1/3 of the price
