I know this is a SW site :) BUT i'm actually thinking of starting a planted FW tank (high tech tank, dosing CO2 etc).

Has anyone ever tried one of these tanks?

I've done the nano marine tank :) Was cool but the ITCH for a larger system was too great - scrapped that tank and been tankless:err: since the end of last year...

Anyway I know I will get back into marines in the future (possibly set up a marine tank in my practice one day) but for now i'm looking for something low maintenance and perhaps loads cheaper :)

I would love to set up another nano but seriously can't afford a chiller and skimmer etc etc (having to save up for my own place etc etc now so 90% of my cash is going into savings and not toys unfortunately).

I think a FW planted tank or possibly malawi cichlid setup would be really quite cheap to set up

I initially wanted to go for a planted tank...then i saw a marine tank....
never looked back since, now im addicted to this forum aswell!:)

Planted tanks are nice, can look smart, saw some Zen Garden style planted tank, stunning! But also comes with maintenance, lotsa trimming, checking params, harvesting etc.

    Marines imho offers more reward!

i did it but used the simple method with garden fertilizer and lime, with 1 crazy simieze fighter in there. Set it up and it grew wild, no co2 or anything. then decided to go reef and then broke down all my tanks
